Ian Tyrer Award 2005 - Tony Smith

altThe 2005 Ian Tyrer Award was awarded to Tony Smith of Plantagenet Wines and Bouverie Estate. In 2003 Ian Tyrer received the George Mulgure Award for outstanding service to the wine industry and later that year died of cancer. Therefore it was felt that an award in Ian Tyrer’s name to help reward and recognised people who also promoted Mount Barker be awarded at the Mount Barker Winter Dinner.

Ian Tyrer Award 2007 - Rob Bowen


altThis is the 3rd Ian Tyrer award. Set up in the spirit of the George Mulgure Award which was awarded to Ian in 2003. The award was set up to reward those that have help, supported and promoted the Mount Barker Wine Industry.

This years winner, Rob Bowen certainly deserves this honour. He was our first qualified winemaker in the Great Southern starting at Plantagenet Wines in the late 70's.

Ian Tyrer Award 2008 - Qantas Wine Show

alt The Ian Tyrer Award 2008 went to the Qantas Wine Show Mount Barker marking their 30 anniversary. Beginning in 1978 as part of the Mount Barker Agricultural Show, the Wine Show of Western Australia has grown to become a separate and distinguished event which annually determines the best of Western Australian wines. From only six classes in 1978, the show now includes over 41 classes and 17 trophies including the prestigious Qantas Award for Best Wine of Show.
