Tasting Notes
The Reserve is crafted from 100% free-run juice sourced from specially selected fruit, representing the purest expression of quality and site. Vibrant aromas of lemon and lime lead to a concentrated palate bursting with citrus flavour, supported by lively natural acidity and a long, crisp finish. Its purity and balance make it a superb match for smoked salmon, freshly caught whiting or delicate shellfish dishes.
Vineyard
Fruit is sourced from our dry-grown, 49-year-old, 12-hectare vineyard in Mount Barker, within Western Australia's renowned Great Southern wine region. Our mature vines are not irrigated, a rarity in modern viticulture, producing naturally low yields of small berries with exceptional concentration and flavour.
Planted on ancient gravelly loam soils and benefiting from the region's cool climate, the vines ripen slowly, developing intense varietal character while retaining freshness and natural acidity. Cane-pruned and yielding approximately two tonnes per hectare, the vineyard consistently produces fruit of outstanding quality. Harvest generally takes place from mid-March through late April, depending on seasonal conditions.
Vintage Conditions
The 2019 vintage commenced earlier than usual and progressed under ideal conditions, with minimal disease pressure and favourable weather throughout the growing season. These conditions allowed for extended hang time, particularly for the red varieties, resulting in excellent ripeness and above-average alcohol levels.
Across the Great Southern, the vintage produced wines of unusual power and concentration while maintaining regional elegance. Expect expressive floral aromatics in the whites and remarkable intensity and depth in the reds.
Winemaking
Mount Barker's cool, dry climate has earned an international reputation for producing world-class Riesling, and this Reserve is a testament to that pedigree. The wine displays hallmark notes of chalky minerality, vibrant lime and subtle passionfruit, capturing both varietal purity and a strong sense of place.
Through meticulous vineyard management and sympathetic winemaking tailored to the season, our aim is to produce wines that are balanced, lively and finely structured, with excellent cellaring potential while remaining immediately enjoyable.
