Riesling has been at the heart of the Galafrey story since the winery was established in the early days of the Mount Barker wine region. When owner and winemaker Kim Tyrer took over the winemaking, she made it her mission to craft one of Australia's finest Rieslings.
As Kim explains:
"Every vintage, I obsess over the smallest details to create a Riesling with intensity through the mid-palate while preserving the beautiful lemon blossom, citrus and floral characters that make the variety so special."
A key difference is that Galafrey's Riesling comes from dry-grown vines, relying solely on natural rainfall rather than irrigation. These low-yielding vines produce fruit with exceptional concentration and balance, creating wines of remarkable character and longevity.
Kim credits this to the vision of her father, who searched extensively across Western Australia before planting Galafrey in 1977 on what proved to be an outstanding site for Riesling.

Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2022 Half Bottles
Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2022 Half Bottles are crafted from premium Great Southern fruit, showcasing the region’s renowned cool-climate character. Pale straw-green in colour, this wine offers an expressive bouquet of grassy herbs, tropical fruit and passionfruit, leading to a fresh, aromatic palate with vibrant fruit flavours and crisp, refreshing acidity.
Reserve Chardonnay 2022
Dry Grown Reserve Chardonnay 2022 is crafted from fruit grown on Galafrey’s 41-year-old dry-grown vineyard in Mount Barker, Great Southern. Pale straw in colour, it opens with lifted aromas of white peach, tropical fruit and finely integrated French oak, complemented by subtle honeyed buttery notes. The palate is rich yet elegant, revealing flavours of fig, lemon rind and melon layered over a creamy texture, balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, fresh finish.
Barrel Fermented Riesling 2022
A unique expression of Riesling, this wine was fermented and matured in French oak barrels for 12 months, with 85% undergoing barrel fermentation and malolactic fermentation. The result is a textural, dry style that combines creamy complexity with classic citrus and blossom characters, delivering both power and finesse.
Reserve Chardonnay 2024
The warm, dry 2024 season has produced a refined and elegant Chardonnay with lifted aromas of white peach, citrus and beautifully integrated French oak. The palate is layered with flavours of fig, lemon rind and ripe melon, complemented by a creamy texture, vibrant acidity and a long, fresh finish that showcases both richness and finesse.

The palate is mouth-filling and textural, with a touch of residual sweetness adding generosity and balance to flavours of pear, citrus and subtle yellow spice. Pale straw-green in colour, this vibrant Sauvignon Blanc bursts with aromas of fresh-cut herbs, tropical passionfruit and citrus. The palate is crisp and refreshing, delivering lively fruit flavours and bright natural acidity with a clean, lingering finish.
Rose 2025
A special collaborative project between Mount Barker Community College and Galafrey Wines, celebrating local community and winemaking. This vibrant Rosé offers fragrant aromas of rose petals and Turkish Delight, leading to a dry, rounded palate with delicate floral notes, refreshing texture and a crisp, clean finish that lingers beautifully.
